Abstract
A numerical calculation has been done searching for the existence of two-phonon bound states in rare-gas crystals for various values of the wave vector q→ in the principal symmetry directions. The quartic anharmonic force constant needed for the calculation of the poles in the two-phonon Green's function has been evaluated without making the usual approximations (i.e., Peierls or leading-term approximation). The results indicate that for temperatures above some critical value, the formation of two-phonon bound states is possible for all rare-gas crystals.
