Abstract
Because of the surprising extent of discrepancy that exists in literature on values for the gamma to neutron ratio for Pu---Be neutron sources and because of the absence of similar data for Am---Be neutron sources, these ratios were determined experimentally by measuring the gamma-ray spectra of the sources. The values of the ratios were also calculated using recent cross section data. The measured values were found to be in good agreement with the calculated values. A relatively simple method for measuring the neutron yields of these sources is suggested.
