Abstract
Effect of fibre orientation on stress concentration in a finite width composite laminate was studied using finite element techniques. Studies were carried out for three a/w ratios (a is the hole diameter and w the width of plate). The stress concentration factor was found to be maximum when the fibre directions are parallel to the loading and minimum when they make an angle of 45°. In all the cases the maximum stress concentration occurs on the hole boundary at the minimum cross-section. With the increase in a/w ratio the stress distribution on the minimum cross-section tends to be linear.
