Abstract
Unambiguous synthesis of 2-carboxy-3-hydroxymethylthiophene, 2-carboxy-4-hydroxymethylthiophene and 2-carboxy-5-hydroxymethylthiophene is reported. From the intermediate bromomethyl-2-carbethoxythiophenes, relevant thiouronium salts were prepared. Synthesis of 2-carboxy-5-mercaptomethylthiophene and 2-carboxythiophene-5-aldehyde is reported.
