Abstract
The values of the second virial coefficient A2, were determined by a light-scattering method for polymethyl methacrylate mixed fractions in methyl ethyl ketone and ethyl acetate systems. It is shown that in a mixture of two components A2 is sensitive to the presence of the higher molecular weight component in a sample of a lower molecular weight, but not to the presence of a lower molecular weight component in a sample of higher molecular weight. This effect is found to be predominant in the good solvent (methyl ethyl ketone). The results obtained are in general agreement with those of Chien et al. but are in contrast with those of Elias.
