Abstract

The frog's stomach muscle and the guinea pig's uterus relax without application of any external force when treated with noradrenaline; this relaxation is accompanied by increase in oxygen consumption, and is inhibited by cyanide, dinitrophenol and iodoacetic acid. Hence, it is postulated that relaxation produced by noradrenaline, like that produced by adrenaline, is an active process.
