Abstract
PEC studies on single crystal n-CuInS2 in I2/In−(aq.) have been carried out and the results compared with the behaviour of CuInS2/Sn2− and CuInSe2/Inn− systems. Photopotential, photocurrent vs. applied voltage and wavelength of radiation, power characteristics and output stability of the PEC cell (Pt-counter) show that the photoanode is stable and shows an efficiency η = 4.9%, a value comparable to the CuInS2/Sn2−, but much less than CuInSe2/In− systems. Analysis of the lphoto-V data indicate that improvements in η and output stability are possible by suitable control of crystal characteristics, surface treatment and electrolyte modification.
