Abstract
Polymerization of 2-methyl-2-oxazoline was carried out using a trifunctional initiator, 2-perbromomethyl-2-oxazoline. The degree of polymerization (DP) of the resulting polymer was very close to the feed mole ratio of the monomer to initiator. The number-average molecular weight M-n increased linearly with conversion, indicating the living nature of the propagating chain end. 1H NMR and end-group analyses results are consistent with the proposal that the polymer possesses a star-shaped structure.
