Abstract

The photophysical behavior of biphenylene has been investigated employing picosecond time-resolved absorption measurements over the range 400-760 nm. The temporal behavior of the different absorption maxima suggest that the transient absorption results from two different configurations of biphenylene. It is estimated that the configuration changes within 15-30 ps after excitation. The lifetime of the relaxed emitting state of the compound is measured to be 245±15 ps.
