Abstract

The x-ray K-emission spectrum of yttrium in several compounds has been investigated using 400-mm bent-crystal (mica) spectrograph. The secondary method of excitation (fluorescence) has been employed in order to ensure that the compound under study does not decompose during the investigation. The shifts which occur in the positions of the x-ray diagram lines such as Kα1,2 and Kβ1,3 have been measured. The reasons responsible for producing these chemical shifts have been discussed. An estimation of the shift of Kα1 line has been made using Moseley's law, and it is seen that the agreement with the experimental value is indeed good. The correlation between the x-ray K-absorption and K-emission studies has been pointed out.
