Abstract

Osmotic integrity of myelin fraction was critically evaluated by the technique of enzyme osmometry and osmometry linked to turbidimetry. Myelin particles behave as osmometers. Gravity-mediated entry of sucrose across these myelin particles suggests the presence of a naked resealed plasma membrane. Myelin particles, being proximal to synapse, can be used as logical control material for synaptosomal uptake studies.
