Abstract
The paper solves by the method of singular perturbations a boundary value problem relating to a flow of a viscoelastic fluid for which a unique complete solution can be obtained in an exact form. The failure of a classical perturbation method to obtain an approximate solution is highlighted and the degree of accuracy obtained by singular perturbation method is indicated.
