Abstract

Optical and structural properties of copper-black layers prepared by the anodic oxidation of copper in an alkaline medium have been studied. They have high visible absortion (α ≈ 0.95) and low infrared emission (ε ≈ 0.2) with cut-off at 3.5 µ . X-ray diffraction, electron diffraction and ESCA studies of these layers indicate that they are mixture of cuprous and cupric oxides. The crystallite size is between 100 to 200 Å .
