Abstract
The effect of gas flow rate, liquid flow rate and diffusivity of the solute in the gas-phase on the gas-side mass transfer coefficient was investigated in laboratory packed columns containing ⅜ in. (0.95 cm) ceramic Raschig rings. An eight-fold variation in the diffusivity was obtained. It was found that at a given volumetric gas and liquid flow rate the gas-side mass transfer coefficient varies as the square root of the diffusivity. It is unlikely that the Schmidt number is the proper correlating factor.
