Abstract

In recent predictions, metastable escape times Tp over low (n-dimensional) barriers ΔΦ(μ) could show novel non-Arrhenius behavior, vanishing as a power of ΔΦ. Thus & as a control parameter μ approaches the spinodal limit μc, where ΔΦ(μ=μc)=0. Monte Carlo simulations for the two-mode laser (n=4) are in excellent agreement with the predicted behavior of the mean first-passage time Tp. While the exponent prediction of θp is 2, the Monte Carlo simulations yield a value of θp=2.007±0.008.
