Abstract

Detailed Mössbauer measurements on the mixed valence system EuNi2P2 have been carried out. The line width of the resonance exhibits a broad peak at ≈ 40 K. We discuss that this feature cannot be understood in terms of the known possible mechanisms of line broadening. These studies also show that unlike other known Eu-based materials, EuNi2P2 is strongly mixed valent even as T→0.
