Abstract
The reactions of allenyl and propargyl cobaloximes with organosulphonyl chlorides under anaerobic and photochemical conditions form sulphones by a novel homolytic attack at the α carbon to the metal. Allenyl and propargyl sulphones are formed by regiospecific attack of RSO2 on the α carbon bound to cobalt in 1̲ and 6̲. CH2=C=CH-CoIII(dmgH)2Py (1̲)+RSO2Cl—hν CH2=C=CH-SO2R+ClCoIII(dmgH)2Py. CH≡C-CH2-COIII(dmgH)2Py (6̲)+RSO2Cl—hνCH≡C-CH2-SO2R+ClCoIII(dmgH)2Py.
