Abstract
Acid-catalysed rearrangement of α-hyroxycyclobutane derivatives 3a-3c followed by retroaldol cleavage and oxidation in an one-pot operation furnished angularly carboxylated trans-fused cycloheptanoid compounds 5a-5c.
