Abstract

Kerman and Shakin have proposed a model for vibrational even nuclei in which the cubic terms are included in the nuclear vibrational Hamiltonian. Their results are used to fix the position of the 0+ state in Zn68. The predicted energy ratio (1.586) of the 0+ state to the first-excited 2+ state is in excellent agreement with the observed energy ratio (1.552), which implies a 0+ state at 1.66 MeV. Further, we predict from this theory a 4+ state at 2.013 MeV, which has not so far been observed.
