Abstract
The following result is proved: for two stable particles having the same quantum numbers, the vanishing of the wave function renormalization constant for one necessarily implies the same for the other. The compositeness criterion both in the field-theoretic and dispersion-theoretic sense loses its absolute significance in such a case.
