Abstract
The theory of electromagnetic cascades is reviewed on the basis of Ter-Mikhaelian's cross section for bremsstrahlung of an electron in polarising media. The finitenss of Ter-Mikhaelian's total cross-section enables us to obtain explicit expressions for the mean behaviour with inclusion of ionisation loss. The method of solution is demonstrated by dealing with the number of electrons produced in a certain thickness of matter, the energy of each electron being greater than E at the time of its production.
