Abstract
A novel approach to the kinetic theory of gases is suggested through certain correlation functions known as product densities. This approach is shown to be very useful in explaining transitions from gaseous to liquid state as well as laminar to turbulent flows in gas dynamics. For large deviations from the equilibrium configuration, it is shown that the system obeys a set of generalised Navier-Stokes equation where some stochastic features are present.
