Gamma ray spectra in the range of ~8-35MeV have been measured at 45°, 90°, and 135° in the reaction p+197Au at Ep=27MeV. The statistical and the nucleon-nucleon bremsstrahlung models fail to describe the data. The direct-semidirect capture model works well for Eγ>20MeV. The possibility of extracting information on the single particle strength distribution in the final nucleus has been illustrated.
