Abstract
By treating nuclear fission as a Markov process, the transition matrix is evaluated directly from ground state nuclear data without the introduction of any free mass dependent parameters, to give the observed mass distributions of several nuclei. It is also shown that there is some indication of a non-uniform charge distribution at the saddle point if shell corrections are introduced at the saddle point.
