Abstract
Ground-state occupancies of nuclei in the s-d shell are calculated using spectral averaging methods. Ten effective interactions have been used and ground-state occupancies given by these interactions are compared with those obtained from experimental data. Different interactions predict considerably different s1/2 ground-state occupancies, there being a close correlation between the occupancy and the s1/2 single-particle energy as renormalized by the interaction. Comparison of calculated and experimental occupancies then determines a parameter of the interaction (the "induced single-particle energy") and favors a subset of the interactions investigated.
