Abstract
The effective neutron-proton interaction, assumed to be central, is deduced for some nuclei in the region A = 40 to 90 from the spectra and other pertinent properties of doubly odd nuclei. A Gaussian shape well with fixed range and exchange character parameterized in terms of V0, Vσ, Vτ and Vστ is used with an n-p wave function and the values of the interaction strengths for best fit with data are calculated. It is found that the spin-independent parameters are relatively independent of the configuration and the parity of the Nordheim number, whereas the spin-dependent terms seem to have significantly different values for even and odd Nordheim number configurations. This may well represent the effects due to non-central forces.
