Abstract
An s-wave model of quark-quark forces is examined in detail in the context of a three-quark treatment of baryons and their resonances using parastatistics. The model, which is an extension of one proposed recently by one of the authors (A.N.M.), gives attractive kernels for {56}, (even)+ and {70}, (odd)- states in an SU(6), LP classification, in agreement with Dalitz's classification of such states up to the first few L-excitations. One also obtains an energy formula of the type EL = E - ηL (η<1), leading to an "ionization energy" E for a quark-diquark system. The theoretical and experimental implications of these results are discussed.
