Abstract

A simple design of detachable leads has been incorporated in superconducting solenoids. Preliminary tests have shown very satisfactory behavior of the leads up to 100 A to produce a magnetic field of 5.0 T in a bore of 22 mm. Such leads will be useful for energizing superconducting magnets in small liquid helium dewars of 1–2 ℓ capacity.
