A study of the sporadic-E layer over Waltair

Abstract

From the ƒE_s data, manually observed at Waltair, during February 1956 to February 1957 and November 1961 to October 1962, the diurnal and seasonal variation of the occurrence of E_s is studied. An attempt is made to explain the obtained results. The diurnal and seasonal variations of ƒE_s are studied and the results are in accordance with those obtained at other middle latitude stations. A comparison is made of the diurnal variation of ƒE_s at Waltair during 1956-1957 with the other Indian stations during the same period. The E_s characteristics at Waltair, except for the percentage occurrence of E_s with ƒE_s > 7 Mc/s show slight positive correlation with sunspot activity. An analysis of the lunar semi-diurnal tides in ƒE_s at Waltair is made.
