Abstract
Suggests a generalisation of the Painleve test to include situations in which the leading order singularity is not determined by a simple singularity analysis. Such situation often arise in equations whose non-linearities are convective derivatives (e.g. the Hasegawa-Mima equation (1978) in plasma physics).
