Abstract

Electron density profiles were obtained from high power wave interaction measurements at The Pennsylvania State University during a solar flare which occurred on 21 October 1968. The results indicate increases in electron density at all heights in the D-region, but especially above 70 km. The electron production rates were calculated from the NRL measured 0–3 and 0–8 Å flux, and compared with the changes in electron density. It is concluded that the non-X-ray production rate at 80 km is less than 10 cm-3 sec-1.
