Abstract
The stepwise formation constants, enthalpy and entropy changes for the formation of bis-cysteino-Ni(II) chelate have been determined. The analysis of the thermodynamic quantities shows that the chelate has a square planar symmetry and that the enthalpy change associated with the formation of the Ni(II)---S bond is nearly half of that expected of the Ni(II)---N bond. The visible and u.v. absorption spectrum of the chelate is consistent with a square planar symmetry.
