Abstract
The first-order lattice vibration Raman spectrum of magnesium fluoride has been measured using the 6328 Å emission from a He-Ne laser. All four vibration modes which are Raman active in the first order have been detected and their group theoretical symmetries determined. The lattice vibration spectrum of magnesium fluoride is discussed and compared with the vibration spectrum of rutile.
