Abstract

Using the free electron wave function it has been shown that the propability of photoionization of a π-electron from aromatic hydrocarbons should be maximum if the incident photon has energy sufficient to ionize and to leave an additional momentum p=√5 Kh2/2 to the escaping electron. This momentum further appears to be independent of the ring size.
