Abstract

Turbulent flow of an incompressible, electrically conducting fluid between two parallel plates in the presence of an external, uniform magnetic field parallel to the plates is discussed. Starting with the Reynolds equations for hydromagnetics which are eventually reduced to three equations in seven unknowns, some conclusions about the mean pressure distribution and turbulent fluctuations are drawn. Unlike the case of laminar flow, the mean velocity distribution is found to be affected by the magnetic field through turbulent fluctuations and the mean magnetic field distribution does not remain uniform.
