Abstract

An oscillator externally biased beyond cut-off which may be used as a binary memory device is studied. The analysis of the device is presented for a Colpitts oscillator only, even though the same principle is more widely applicable. The two-state property of the oscillator is achieved by so arranging the feedback that the oscillator which is normally quiescent continues to oscillate once started. It is shown that with this device resolution time about ten times smaller than that with a conventional device, using the same tube, may be obtained.
