Abstract
The ratio of the square of the perimeter P of a figure to its area A is the Euclidean measure of the noncompactness of the figure. Tiffs ratio is also a natural measure of noncompactness for digital pictures, provided that P and A are properly defined. This can be done based on classical results regarding evaluation of the area and perimeter of a polygon whose vertices are lattice points.
