Abstract
New routes of pulsed-laser-induced and ion-beam-induced surface synthesis and modification of oxides, nitrides and carbides are discussed. Specifically, the processes of pulsed-laser-induced reactive quenching at liquid-solid interfaces and pulsed laser evaporation for compound film formation are discussed at length. In the context of ion beam applications, interesting examples of the use of ion implantation and ion beam mixing techniques are presented.
