Abstract
A new tetraaza macrocyclic ligand capable of providing two nitrogen coordination to each copper center has been utilized to model tyrosinase-like activity. Aromatic hydroxylation in one of the rings has been observed with concomitant partial hydrolysis of the macrocycle. The final dicopper(II) complex has a μ-phenoxo μ-hydroxo bridged structure as evidenced from spectroscopic and variable-temperature magnetic studies.
