Abstract
Salts of oxoperoxofluorozirconates(IV), [ZrO(O2)F2]2- and [ZrO(O2)2F]3-, have been prepared from the reaction of ZrO2.nH2O with H2O2 and hydrofluoric acid at pH 6 and 12, respectively. No peroxozirconate could be obtained below pH 6. A μ-oxo species [F5Zr---O---ZrF5]4- has been isolated from a similar reaction at pH 5. The compounds have been characterized by chemical analyses, magnetic susceptibility and EPR measure- ments, IR and laser Raman spectroscopic studies. (NH4)2[ZrO(O2)F2] in water reacts with SO2(g) to produce a ternary complex (NH4)2 [ZrO(SO4)F2].7H2O.
