Abstract

A systematic study of the effect of humid atmosphere on the stability of various phases of BSCCO system is reported. Samples exhibiting single 2223 phase were found to be insensitive to humid atmosphere, whereas multiphasic samples as well as samples having only 2212 phase showed the presence of Bi2CuO4, SrCO3, CaCO3 and CuO and lowering of Tc. The formation of impurity phases in the degraded multiphasic samples is ascribed to the decomposition of 2212 phase.
