Abstract
Consideration of the interaction between the p shell and the s-d shell particles, coupled with the short range character of the nuclear force, leads to the conclusion that the 4 particle - 4 hole state of 16O should have ellipsoidal symmetry. A simple Hartree-Fock calculation bears this out.
