Abstract

Harmonic vibration isolation characteristics of periodic systems are analyzed. The notion of a propagation constant is used profitably to render the computational effort independent of the number of periodic elements present in the system. The analysis includes isolator inertia, frequency dependence of isolator stiffness and damping, and the finite foundation impedance. However, the reflections from the ends of the foundation, i.e., the foundation resonances, are neglected. Numerical results are presented for the range of parameter values which encompass different situations encountered in real life.
