Abstract

Relativistic coupled-cluster theory has been employed to calculate the lifetime of the 62P3/2 state of singly ionized lead (207Pb) and compared with the corresponding values obtained from second-order relativistic many-body perturbation theory and an accurate ion trapping experiment. This is one of the very few applications of this theory to excited state properties of heavy atomic systems. Contributions from the different electron correlation effects are given explicitly.
