Abstract

The Kα X-ray satellite spectrum of Cl is studied in KCl excited by photons. The KL1/KL0 intensity ratio is found to be smaller than that based on the 'sudden approximation' theory. The KL1 satellite group average energy is found to be in satisfactory agreement with the value measured for heavy ion excitation within the range of the experimental errors. The energy shift of KL1 with respect to KL0 is found to be in agreement with the recently reported Dirac-Fock energies calculated under the assumption that no electrons are present in the M-shell.
