Abstract
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic studies using Mg Ka X-rays on some dithiolate complexes of the type Rn+[M(X)2]n- are presented where n= 1, 2 and M = Co(II), Co(III), Ni(II), Ni(III), Cu(II), Pd(II), Pt(II). X refers to the various dithiolate derivatives used as ligands, namely maleonitriledithiolate, dithiosquarate, dithiocrocanate and dicyanomethylenedithiocrocanate. The counter cations used are the tetramethylammonium, tetrabutylammonium, N-methylphenazinium, tropilium, tetramethylphenylenediamine and methylene blue. Using the experimentally obtained core electron binding energies on the various atoms, their charges have been calculated. A general trend in the charge distribution is seen for varying the ligand, the central metal atom and the counter cations. An attempt at deriving a meaningful correlation between shake-up satellites and g- values for the paramagnetic compounds is reported.
