Abstract
Amphiphilic porphyrins bearing hydrophilic pyridinium and hydrophobic long-chain alkyl groups are found to aggregate appreciably in nonpolar solvents. The observed biphasic fluorescence decay of these porphyrin derivatives is interpreted in terms of electron abstraction by the electron-deficient pyridinium group.
