Abstract
Numerical evaluation of the entropy of a system of fermions moving in a model single-particle level scheme has been carried out, and the results compared with the analytical expression derived by Kahn and Rosenzweig. It is shown that in the asymptotic high-energy limit, the total additive correction to the excitation energy, and not merely a part of it, is equal to the ground-state shell correction.
