Abstract

Malate dehydrogenase was partially purified from the skeletal muscle and brain of young and old mate rat. The Km (oxalacetate) values of both the enzymes are significantly higher in old age. Citrate and G-1-P inhibit the enzyem of both the organs non-competitively, and ATP inhibits it uncompetitively at both the ages. These inhibitory effects are significantly lower in old age. This change in regulatory function may be of disadvantage in olf age.
