Abstract

Dimerization of acetic and trifluoroacetic acids has been studied, and accurate values of thermodynamic parameters (ΔH and ΔS) and monomer and dimer chemical shifts have been determined. There is some evidence of an inductive effect upon the values of ΔH(-17.5 ± 1.1 kcal mole-1 for acetic acid and -14.5 ± 0.6 for trifluoroacetic acid).
